Independent film

The independent film I chose to watch was "Clerks" which was written and directed by Kevin Smith. This movie won the filmmakers trophy at Sundance in 1994. This movie was really funny and gave the audience the insight of what might be going through convenience store clerks while they are at work. Although I dont think many convenience store clerks would act as outrageous as the two main characters. Jay and Silent Bob put a nice druggie touch on the film as well.

Film Noir

I chose to watch "Casablanca" for my film noir. Casablanca and Chinatown were fairly similar because they both involved the police and the main male characters were trying to work with the police to make the situation better. For instance, in Chinatown Jack Nicholson's character could basically roam free because of who his character was. He used to work with some of the police in the movie.
In Casablanca, Humphry Bogart's character worked with the police to make the transition with Ingrid Bergman's character a smooth one. He convinced the police to leave her husband alone until he explained to her what was going to happen. Both characters always had the interest of the women and made sure they did what they thought would be best for them.

Foreign Film Post

I watched "Life is Beautiful" which is an italian film. In my personal opinion it was one of the best movies I have ever seen in my entire life. The plot had everything from comedy to drama and tragedy. American movies are usually one type of genre, not a cluster of everything mixed into one like "Life is Beautiful." Towards the middle of the film, I forgot I was even reading the lines, I felt like it was just listening and understanding everything the actors and actresses said.
Foreign films have better plots than American films because, like I said before, foreign films are not afraid to mix genres like american films are. One foreign film will bring out more emotions in a person than any single american film will. Foreign films don't have as much pressure, for lack of a better word, than american films do. American films are played all over the world all the time. It is very rare to see a foreign film in theaters in America.

Movie Memory Post

When I was about 13 my mom and I went to the movies to go see "A Walk to Remember." I never read the book by Nicholas Sparks so other than the previews, I really didn't know much about the plot or anything. The movie starts and I'm automatically hooked because I was a fan of Mandy Moore and I thought Shane West was cute. Anyway, about 3/4 of the way through the movie Mandy Moore's character is walking with Shane West's character when she tells him that she has leukemia. I hardly ever cry in front of my family, never mind an entire room of strangers, but when those words came out of her mouth, I lost it. I was hysterically crying and I could not stop. Thats when I realized that even though the characters and the stories are not real, well made movies connect with the audience. It makes the audience feel like they are right there with the characters and going through what the characters are going through. It is absolutely limitless the emotions that movies can bring out in people.
